Jefferson County Health Center Again Earns National Performance Leadership Award in Quality

posted on 11/20/25

FAIRFIELD, Iowa, November 20, 2025 – Jefferson County Health Center (JCHC) is proud to announce that it has once again been recognized with the Performance Leadership Award in Quality by The Chartis Center for Rural Health. This repeat achievement places JCHC among the top-performing rural hospitals nationwide and underscores the organization’s ongoing commitment to providing exceptional, reliable, patient-centered care year after year.

“Receiving this award again is a testament to the consistency, dedication, and skill of our entire healthcare team,” said Jacque Bookin-Nosbisch, Chief Nursing Officer. “Quality is not a one-time achievement at JCHC—it’s deeply embedded in our culture. Every member of our staff plays a role in ensuring the safest, best possible outcomes for the patients and families we serve.”

The Performance Leadership Awards program is based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX®, a comprehensive and objective framework for assessing how rural hospitals are performing. INDEX benchmarks are relied upon by rural hospitals, health systems with rural footprints, hospital associations, and state offices of rural health to measure performance across multiple areas impacting hospital operations and finance.

“The areas of quality, outcomes, and patient perspective are cornerstones of healthcare delivery across rural America, and this year’s Performance Leadership Award recipients are establishing a standard of excellence for their rural peers to follow,” said Michael Topchik, Executive Director, Chartis Center for Rural Health. “We are delighted to shine a spotlight on such strong performance and honor the achievement of these hospitals on National Rural Health Day.”

Observed annually, National Rural Health Day highlights the vital role rural hospitals play in ensuring access to high-quality healthcare despite the unique challenges of geography, workforce, and resources. JCHC’s impact extends well beyond healthcare alone.

As one of Jefferson County’s largest employers and economic drivers, JCHC generates substantial community and economic benefits:

  • 685 jobs, representing nearly 10% of all employment in Jefferson County
  • $45 million in total wages, accounting for 12% of the county’s wages
  • $103.5 million in total expenditures, contributing to over 14% of the county’s gross domestic product
  • More than $1.1 million in community benefits annually, supporting over 1,700 individuals through service programs

With its continued investment in both clinical excellence and community well-being, JCHC remains not only a trusted healthcare provider but a pillar of economic and social strength for Jefferson County
