Fairfield Launches “Christmas in July” Fundraiser to Preserve Beloved Holiday Displays

posted on 7/21/25

The Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce has launched its first, annual Christmas in July fundraiser to help preserve and enhance the city’s cherished holiday light displays. Known throughout southeast Iowa as “Christmas City,” Fairfield’s festive tradition has lit up the community for generations—bringing joy to families, visitors, and residents alike.

The displays in downtown Fairfield have become a holiday hallmark, with generations of families gathering to admire the lights and celebrate the season together. However, many of these beloved decorations are now decades old. Some are no longer functional, others are deteriorating due to time and weather, and several need full replacements.

Funds raised through this campaign will go directly toward upgrading aging displays, replacing worn-out pieces, and ensuring the tradition continues to shine brightly for many more generations to come.

“This tradition is part of what makes Fairfield magical during the holidays,” said Mendy McAdams, Executive Director of the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce. “We want future generations to experience the same joy and wonder we all have. With community support, we can keep that spirit alive.”
