Fairfield Community Center Discontinues Meal Service but Remains a Vibrant Community Hub

The Fairfield Community Center has announced that it will no longer be serving meals to the community, following a decision by Milestones Area Agency on Aging to discontinue meal service at 40 locations across the state, including Fairfield. As a result of this change, three kitchen staff members at the Community Center were laid off.
In response, the board of directors explored the possibility of continuing to offer meals once a week. However, due to complex state regulations and the significant costs associated with obtaining a restaurant license, the effort proved unsustainable.
Despite the end of meal service, the Fairfield Community Center remains a lively gathering place, continuing to serve residents of all ages. Regular activities include three weekly card clubs, a quilting group, a coffee club, and free bingo every Wednesday from 12:15 to 2:30 p.m., complete with refreshments and popcorn. The center also hosts two Girl Scout troops, the local Lions Club, and ongoing puzzle fun for enthusiasts.
The facility is also available for rent for a wide range of events, including graduation parties, baby and bridal showers, church services, celebration of life gatherings, family reunions, pen pal parties, and political meetings.
Community members interested in using the space or learning more about its offerings are encouraged to contact Kathy Horn at 641-919-9440 or stop by the center. Kathy is available to answer questions and assist with scheduling.
