Iowa Art Quilters & Fiber Artists Exhibit Opening
Friday, October 1st, 2021 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Fairfield Arts and Convention Center - Main Gallery

The Fairfield Art Association announces a new exhibit by "Iowa Art Quilters & Fiber Artists" opening on Friday October 1 in the Main Gallery at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center. This amazing fiber show of 30+ art pieces, including Fairfield's Wendy Read, is a favorite for viewers and has a Reception for the Artists, members and guests from 6:30-8:30 PM on that Friday.

A bonus exhibit "Color Expressions" in the Hallway Gallery features art works by FAA member artist Gin Lammert in oil, soft pastels and plein air pieces.

"Iowa Art Quilters & Fiber Artists" is a slight name change with the addition of "Fiber Artists". According to Wendy Read "Our group recently decided to expand our focus from the art quilt to encompass all fiber art forms, as our members have explored additional fiber art forms and techniques.  While the term “art quilt” allows for more creative use of the techniques and materials not typically found in traditional quilting, it does not reflect all of the artistic endeavors possible in the larger umbrella of the fiber arts."

Iowa Art Quilters and Fiber Artists have been meeting monthly for 16 years, in Grinnell, Iowa, to exchange ideas and inspire each other in our quest to grow as fiber artists.  The group is open to any Iowan interested in the quilting/fiber arts, beginners to advanced.  Our emphasis has always been to learn from one another, with programming voluntarily supplied at each meeting by creative and willing members who share their techniques and/or a product they have found interesting and useful.

Fiber artists from around Iowa exhibiting in this show include: Wendy Read, Barbara Riggs, Carol Trumbull, Jean Taft, Sue Kluber, Susan McIntyre, Karen Grimes, Sandi Rieber, Judy Ludwich, and Rebecca Loew.

About our Hallway Gallery exhibiting FAA Member artist: Gin Lammert studied under artist/instructor Richard Dutton while attending Indian Hills Community College in the 1970’s. She began showing her work in public in 1978. There are a few rare pieces signed in her maiden name of South, followed by 27 years as Ginny Sorak. Since 2001, her signature work changed yet again to Gin Lammert with soft pastel and oil paints being the primary mediums of choice in creating portraiture, landscape, and still life works. In 2015, Gin began participating in plein air competitions and has won numerous awards at these events. She currently resides in Southern Iowa where she teaches from her home studio. Gin also travels throughout the Midwest sharing her accumulative knowledge in workshops as well as giving demonstrations for schools and institutions interested in fine art. Lammert has taught in the FAA studio.
