Fairfield Area Chamber to Host Meet the Candidate Forum October 13

The Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce will host a Meet the Candidate Forum on Tuesday, October 13, at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center, providing community members with an opportunity to hear directly from candidates appearing on the ballot. This event is open and free to the public thanks for Freeman Kevenides Law Firm, our presenting sponsor.

Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. for a social time in the Atrium, allowing attendees to meet candidates before the formal program begins at 5:30 p.m.

The Jefferson County Supervisor candidates will begin at approximately 5:40 p.m., featuring incumbent Lee Dimmitt and candidate Jerry Leonard.

From 6:40 to 7:00 p.m., the Superintendent of Fairfield Community Schools will provide information about the GO Bond measure appearing on the ballot.

The evening will conclude with the Iowa House District 87 candidates, incumbent Jeff Shipley and candidate Tom O’Donnell, beginning at approximately 7:00 p.m.

The Chamber emphasizes that the event is not a debate. The purpose of the forum is to provide voters with an opportunity to learn more about the candidates and their perspectives on issues important to the Fairfield and Jefferson County communities.

Candidates will be asked questions prepared by the Chamber, and there will be no questions taken from the audience. Each candidate will have designated time limits for introductions and responses. The Chamber will strictly adhere to the schedule and time limits to ensure each candidate has an equal opportunity to participate.

To maintain a neutral and consistent environment, campaign apparel, signs, handouts, campaign literature, and other promotional materials will not be permitted at the event. These guidelines apply equally to all candidates and attendees, with no exceptions.

All participating candidates will receive a copy of the event rules and will be required to review and sign the Candidate Rules & Guidelines before taking the stage.

“We want this to be a meaningful opportunity for our community to become informed,” said Mendy McAdams, Executive Director of the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce. “Our goal is to provide a respectful, organized and equal platform for candidates to share their perspectives on issues that matter to our community.”

The Meet the Candidate Forum is open to the public. Community members are encouraged to attend, listen, and learn more about the candidates and issues appearing on the upcoming ballot.
