"Track Guy Movie" Documentary to Feature at Washington’s Farm to Film Fest April 18–19

posted on 3/13/26

Track Guy Movie, a feature-length documentary celebrating the life and legacy of legendary Iowa track and field announcer Mike Jay, has been officially selected for the 4th Annual Farm to Film Fest, taking place April 18 and 19, 2026, in downtown Washington.

Directed by University of Iowa alum Andrew Snyder, the film marks Snyder's first feature project. It offers an intimate look at Mike Jay, known widely as "the Track Guy," whose roots in the Columbus Junction school system led to a storied career as the premier voice of Iowa athletics, including over 30 years at the Drake Relays and state championship meets.

Beyond his signature voice, the documentary highlights the Track Guy Foundation, established by Mike’s family in 2018. The nonprofit’s mission is to remove financial barriers for student-athletes by providing new shoes for track and cross country participants. Since its inception, the foundation has grown to deliver 1,500 pairs of shoes annually, while also providing coaching grants and clinics across the state.

Local Washingtonians Steve Roth, recent Coach of the year noted in the film, and Jim Gorham, teacher and coach at Columbus Junction schools was instrumental in Mike Jay’s life early on.

Screenings at the Farm to Film Fest are free to attend and will be held at various downtown venues, including the historic State Theatre. Specific screening times and Q&A sessions with the filmmaker will be announced closer to the festival dates.
