Mah Jongg is a tile-based game that was developed in the 19th century in China and has spread throughout the world since the early 20th century. Players at FPL play an American variation of the game every week at the library. Stop by and see how the game is played and join the group if you want to learn the game. Teaching instruction for new players will take place in the first 30 minutes each week. The library also offers introductory books for check-out.

Our Market at a Glance

First organized in 1975, we have become SE Iowa’s most well known farmer’s market. Customers are always pleased, and vendors can’t wait to bring their goods to such a vibrant community of buyers.

The market is intended to provide an opportunity for individuals to sell approved items, which are produced or manufactured by them in their garden, farm or home. Vendors may sell only those products that are approved items and that are grown or made by them.

We are organized as a 501c3 non-profit and manged by a Market Advisory Board. We have expanded to accept vendors from all surounded counties, plus three more counties.

Fairfield Harvest Rush

Fairfield is unique and so is the Harvest Rush. The Iowa Gravel Series is excited to have this established race join the series and we plan to make it a big deal. Origami, the art of paper folding, originated in Japan in the 7th century, and today is firmly established as an international art form. Join local enthusiast and origami guide Vedder Wright for an intro to origami class. All are welcome, from the humblest of beginners to longtime origami practitioners. Jefferson County Board of Supervisors Meeting

Meetings

The Board of Supervisors meets at 8:30 a.m. on most Mondays, and members of the public are welcome to attend. However, it is recommended that any agenda items be submitted in advance to the Auditor’s office no later than noon on Thursday prior to the meeting.

Minutes of the Board meetings are available for public viewing in the County Auditor’s office in the Courthouse, are on the Agenda & Minutes page, and are published weekly in the official county newspapers.

Supervisors Description & Duties

County governments are the quiet, consistent providers of essential services. The Board of Supervisors are the administrative / legislative branch of county government.

Responsibilities Include and Are Not Limited To:

• Setting the county budget & tax levy.
• Approve bonds and reports.
• Hire and supervise non-elected department heads.
• Set county policies. (See Jefferson County Code of Ordinances).

Terms & Elections

• The three Jefferson County Supervisors are elected to serve staggered four-year terms.
• Elections are held every 2 years.

Fairfield Genealogy Club

Join local volunteer Barbara Rainbow for a monthly group exploration of genealogy and local history. Participants are welcome to bring any materials they would like to share or discuss with the group. In the coming months, particpants can look forward to presentations on learning to navigate ancestry.com, delve into the library's genealogy collection together, and make new friends!

Powerful Tools for Caregivers – In-Person Series Begins September 9

Feeling stretched while caring for an adult with chronic conditions? When you take care of yourself, everyone benefits. Powerful Tools for Caregivers is a free, six-week in-person class series designed to help family caregivers reduce stress, communicate effectively, and make confident decisions. Classes meet Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Fairfield, starting September 9 through October 21 (no class on October 14).

Led by experienced facilitators, participants receive The Caregiver Helpbook and enjoy a provided lunch each week, courtesy of Jefferson County Extension and Outreach.

JCHC Parkinson's Support Group

The Jefferson County Parkinson’s Support Group is a Community Group that meets once a month with support from JCHC and the Iowa Chapter of the American Parkinson’s Disease Association (APDA)- “Strength in Optimism. Hope in Progress.” The group meets the first Tuesday of the month at 4:00 p.m. in JCHC Conference Room C. (Use the McCreery Cancer Center entrance.) Origami, the art of paper folding, originated in Japan in the 7th century, and today is firmly established as an international art form. Jefferson County Board of Supervisors Meeting

Meetings

The Board of Supervisors meets at 8:30 a.m. on most Mondays, and members of the public are welcome to attend. However, it is recommended that any agenda items be submitted in advance to the Auditor’s office no later than noon on Thursday prior to the meeting.

Minutes of the Board meetings are available for public viewing in the County Auditor’s office in the Courthouse, are on the Agenda & Minutes page, and are published weekly in the official county newspapers.

Supervisors Description & Duties

County governments are the quiet, consistent providers of essential services. The Board of Supervisors are the administrative / legislative branch of county government.

Responsibilities Include and Are Not Limited To:

• Setting the county budget & tax levy.
• Approve bonds and reports.
• Hire and supervise non-elected department heads.
• Set county policies. (See Jefferson County Code of Ordinances).

Terms & Elections

• The three Jefferson County Supervisors are elected to serve staggered four-year terms.

Jefferson County Board of Supervisors Meeting

Meetings

The Board of Supervisors meets at 8:30 a.m. on most Mondays, and members of the public are welcome to attend. However, it is recommended that any agenda items be submitted in advance to the Auditor’s office no later than noon on Thursday prior to the meeting.

Minutes of the Board meetings are available for public viewing in the County Auditor’s office in the Courthouse, are on the Agenda & Minutes page, and are published weekly in the official county newspapers.

Supervisors Description & Duties

County governments are the quiet, consistent providers of essential services. The Board of Supervisors are the administrative / legislative branch of county government.

Responsibilities Include and Are Not Limited To:

• Setting the county budget & tax levy.
• Approve bonds and reports.
• Hire and supervise non-elected department heads.
• Set county policies. (See Jefferson County Code of Ordinances).

Terms & Elections

• The three Jefferson County Supervisors are elected to serve staggered four-year terms.
• Elections are held every 2 years.

First organized in 1975, we have become SE Iowa’s most well known farmer’s market. Customers are always pleased, and vendors can’t wait to bring their goods to such a vibrant community of buyers.

The market is intended to provide an opportunity for individuals to sell approved items, which are produced or manufactured by them in their garden, farm or home. Vendors may sell only those products that are approved items and that are grown or made by them.

We are organized as a 501c3 non-profit and manged by a Market Advisory Board. We have expanded to accept vendors from all surounded counties, plus three more counties.

Jefferson County Board of Supervisors Meeting

Meetings

The Board of Supervisors meets at 8:30 a.m. on most Mondays, and members of the public are welcome to attend. However, it is recommended that any agenda items be submitted in advance to the Auditor’s office no later than noon on Thursday prior to the meeting.

Minutes of the Board meetings are available for public viewing in the County Auditor’s office in the Courthouse, are on the Agenda & Minutes page, and are published weekly in the official county newspapers.

Supervisors Description & Duties

County governments are the quiet, consistent providers of essential services. The Board of Supervisors are the administrative / legislative branch of county government.

Responsibilities Include and Are Not Limited To:

• Setting the county budget & tax levy.
• Approve bonds and reports.
• Hire and supervise non-elected department heads.
• Set county policies. (See Jefferson County Code of Ordinances).

Terms & Elections

• The three Jefferson County Supervisors are elected to serve staggered four-year terms.
• Elections are held every 2 years.

Volunteer Shifts

• Wednesdays: 1-3:30PM
• Thursdays: 5-9PM
• Fridays: 5-9PM
• Saturdays: 5-9PM

Anyone over 14 is welcome to volunteer on their own, 10-13 year olds will need a parent present

We need your help! Our kitchen runs best with 6 volunteers per shift, but often we're operating with just our kitchen director and a few helpers. Whether you can volunteer once a month or make it a weekly habit, your time is invaluable to us. Regular volunteers are especially appreciated as they help us maintain consistent operations.

Magic: The Gathering CPDH League

Wander in and get your Weekly CPDH Fix! Pods of 4 registered decks only. Ask at the counter about Joining the CPDH League and getting a chance for a piece of the $1000.00 Prize Pool!

CPDH (Competitive Pauper EDH) is a Magic: The Gathering format that combines the budget-friendly nature of Pauper with the multiplayer dynamics of Commander. In CPDH, players build 100-card singleton decks led by an uncommon creature as the commander, but all other cards must be commons. The format emphasizes efficiency, synergy, and strategic play within tight deck-building restrictions, making it a popular choice for players who enjoy competitive gameplay without high financial cost.
