Meet the MIU Pioneers: Basketball, Personal Journeys and Community Connections
MIU Basketball Coach Romel Bryant and four players join Chamber Talk to introduce the people behind the Pioneers as the team prepares for its inaugural season. The conversation gives Fairfield residents a chance to learn about the players’ backgrounds, their goals and what brought them to Maharishi International University.
Their basketball journeys span different hometowns and countries, with stories of finding confidence through a supportive coach, discovering the sport as a teenager and drawing inspiration from Michael Jordan in Space Jam. Along the way, the players share their academic interests and ambitions beyond the court, including one student’s hope to help people experiencing homelessness regain stability.
The players also describe what has stood out about their new surroundings: a peaceful campus, welcoming people and a sense of home. Bryant hopes to build on those connections through community service, discussing opportunities such as school reading activities and visits with local seniors.
With the season approaching, the team wants Fairfield residents to get to know them and come cheer them on. Watch the conversation for a closer look at the Pioneers’ personalities, their hopes for the season and the connections they want to build here.
