Main Street Fairfield Opens Second Round of Downtown Signage Grants
A well-placed sign can help customers spot a business as they walk through downtown. Main Street Fairfield is inviting downtown businesses and commercial property owners to apply for the second round of its Downtown Signage Enhancement Matching Grant.
The program offers a 1:1 match of up to $2,000 for eligible exterior signage improvements. A blade sign, which extends from the side of a building, is one example of signage that can make a storefront easier for pedestrians to find.
Funded in partnership by Main Street Fairfield and the City of Fairfield Community Betterment Funds, the grant is intended to improve business visibility while contributing to a welcoming downtown district.
Who can apply?
Businesses within the Main Street Fairfield district are eligible. Priority will be given to proposals that improve pedestrian visibility, as well as businesses that regularly welcome walk-in customers at least four days a week. Main Street Fairfield will also consider applicants’ involvement with its committees, volunteer activities and mission.
How to get started
Applicants should review Main Street Fairfield’s signage training video and sign guide, then obtain a quote and detailed rendering for their proposed sign. If the applicant does not own the building, a letter of approval or support from the property owner is also needed.
The process includes completing the grant application and a City of Fairfield sign permit application. After the approved sign is installed, applicants should contact Main Street Fairfield with proof of the approved permit to confirm completion and arrange reimbursement.
