Local Students Turn Summer Training into Community Outreach
Young people from across Southeast Iowa spent part of their summer developing leadership skills, strengthening their faith and serving children in communities throughout the region through Child Evangelism Fellowship’s Christian Youth in Action program.
CEF leaders and students gathered at Christian Church of Disciples of Christ in Pleasantville for a week of Christian Youth in Action training. Participants completed practical teaching exercises before leading 5-Day Clubs during June and July.
The summer missionary students included Cambree Miller, Clara Jo Bell, Gabby Diers, Haley Foley, Hannah Kraft, Lilly Small, Piper Miller and Xavier Matthias. Together, they helped bring programming to Birmingham, Fairfield, Danville, Morning Sun, Mount Pleasant, Salem, Lockridge and Argyle.
The clubs welcomed a total of 90 campers. Participants also raised $597.83 through the Southeast Iowa chapter to support mission work in Montenegro. CEF Southeast Iowa credits local churches, host sites, volunteers and community supporters with helping make the summer programming possible.
Child Evangelism Fellowship is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1937. Its Southeast Iowa chapter serves Des Moines, Henry, Jefferson, Lee, Louisa, Muscatine, Scott, Van Buren and Washington counties through programs designed to reach children and prepare volunteers and young leaders for ministry.
