Jefferson County Voters: Important Registration and Absentee Voting Deadlines
Jefferson County voters preparing for the November 3, 2026 General Election should be aware of several upcoming deadlines for voter registration and absentee voting.
Voter Registration
The pre-registration deadline for the election is Monday, October 19, 2026, at 5 p.m.
Residents can check their voter registration status or find information about registering to vote through the Iowa Secretary of State’s website.
Voters are encouraged to review their registration information before the deadline to make sure their name, residential address and other information are current.
In-Person Absentee Voting
In-person absentee voting begins Wednesday, October 14, at the Jefferson County Election Office, located on the main floor of the Jefferson County Courthouse at 51 E. Briggs Avenue in Fairfield.
Regular office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional hours will be available as follows:
- Monday, October 19: Open until 5 p.m.
- Friday, October 30: Open until 5 p.m.
- Saturday, October 31: Open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Monday, November 2: Final day to vote absentee in person
Absentee Voting by Mail
The first day absentee ballots may be mailed to voters is Wednesday, October 14.
Voters who would like to receive an absentee ballot by mail must submit a completed request form. The Jefferson County Auditor must receive the request by 5 p.m. on Monday, October 19.
An official absentee ballot request form is available through the Iowa Secretary of State’s website. Completed forms should be mailed or delivered to:
