Jefferson County 4-H Offering STEM and Cooking SPIN Clubs for Youth
Youth looking to explore new interests, build skills, and have fun learning this fall are invited to join two exciting Jefferson County 4-H SPIN Clubs: a STEM SPIN Club and a Cooking SPIN Club. SPIN, or Special Interest, Clubs are short-term educational experiences designed to help youth discover new hobbies and develop practical skills through hands-on learning. Both clubs are open to youth in 4th-12th grades and will meet on Friday afternoons at the Jefferson County Extension Office from October 30-December 11. Cost is just $30 for each club for all 6 weeks.
The STEM SPIN Club will provide participants with opportunities to engage in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics activities. Youth will explore concepts through hands-on experiments, engineering challenges, robotics, coding, and other interactive projects. The club is designed to encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and innovation while making STEM learning fun and accessible. This club will meet from 2:30-3:30 PM.
For youth who enjoy being in the kitchen, the Cooking SPIN Club offers an opportunity to learn basic cooking techniques, kitchen safety, meal preparation, and nutrition concepts. Participants will work together to prepare a variety of recipes while building confidence and life skills that can be used at home. The club emphasizes teamwork, creativity, and healthy food choices while giving youth the chance to taste and share the dishes they create. This club will meet from 4:00-5:30 PM.
In addition to gaining valuable knowledge and experience, SPIN Club participants may have opportunities to complete project exhibits and learn more about involvement in Jefferson County 4-H. Previous 4-H membership is not required to participate, making the clubs a great way for youth to try something new and explore future interests. Families interested in registering for either club are encouraged to sign up online at https://JeffCoSPINClubs.4honline.com or contact the Jefferson County Extension Office at 641-472-4166 or jefferson4h@iastate.edu
