JCHC Welcomes Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Sandeep Munjal
Jefferson County Health Center (JCHC) is pleased to welcome Sandeep Munjal, MD, FAAOS, FAAHKS an orthopedic surgeon with 30 years of experience, to its orthopedic surgery team. Dr. Munjal will begin practicing at JCHC Professional Clinic on September 21.
Following a successful career with Physicians Clinic of Iowa, Unity Point Health – St. Luke’s Hospital, and Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Dr. Munjal is brining is extensive experience in orthopedic surgery and adult joint reconstruction to JCHC and the surrounding communities.
Dr. Munjal provides comprehensive general orthopedic care, with a special focus on knee and hip surgery, adult joint reconstruction, and joint replacement. His areas of expertise include total and partial knee replacement, total hip replacement, arthroscopic surgery, and robotic-assisted joint replacement.
Dr. Munjal is committed to listening carefully to his patients, helping them understand their condition and treatment options, and developing individualized treatment plans based on their needs and goals.
He completed higher surgical training at the University of Birmingham in England and went on to complete an Adult Joint Reconstruction fellowship at the University of Chicago, a Lower Extremity Joint Replacement & Reconstruction fellowship at SUNY Buffalo, and an Orthopedic Surgery residency at SUNY Buffalo. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and American Association of Hip and Knee Society.
Dr. Munjal's path to medicine was influenced by witnessing the effects of polio in his home country and seeing firsthand the impact the disease could have on mobility and quality of life. Those experiences helped inspire his decision to pursue a career in medicine and orthopedics. His journey was later featured in Flight to End Polio: How Polio Inspired a Surgeon’s Future, which highlights how his early experiences shaped his career.
The addition of Dr. Munjal reflects JCHC’s continued commitment to strengthening orthopedic care and expanding access to specialized services throughout southeast Iowa. His extensive experience in general orthopedics and adult joint reconstruction, along with the introduction of robotic-assisted orthopedic surgery at JCHC, will provide patients with more advanced treatment options close to home.
