Help Future Employees Discover Careers at Your Business

posted on 10/26/26

A business tour, a conversation with a career mentor, or a day spent job shadowing can help students understand what a career looks like beyond the classroom. Indian Hills Community College is inviting area employers to provide those experiences—and businesses can choose a level of involvement that works for them.

Through its Career Services team, Indian Hills seeks businesses willing to host tours, job shadows, and internships or serve as career mentors. According to Alyssa Teague, CTE Career Services Coordinator, there is no minimum time commitment for employers to participate. Each organization can decide which opportunities it would like to offer students.

For Fairfield-area businesses, these connections offer a way to introduce students to local industries, share the skills needed in the workplace, and help future employees discover career opportunities close to home.

Ways to Get Involved

Businesses can connect with students in several ways:

  • Business tours: Give students a firsthand look at your workplace and the different roles within your organization.
  • Job shadows: Help students explore a career by observing someone working in the field.
  • Career mentoring: Share your experience and answer questions about your profession.
  • Internships: Offer students opportunities to gain experience related to their interests and career goals.

Teague reports student interest in finance and business internships, along with technical fields such as industrial maintenance, welding, and cybersecurity. Employers interested in hosting an internship can work with Career Services to discuss the opportunity and any applicable program requirements.

Share Your Job Openings

Employers can also share available positions through Indian Hills Career Services. Job listings may be sent directly to Teague or submitted through the college’s Community Job Listing Request Form for posting on the Indian Hills website.

Start with a Conversation

Businesses do not need to have a complete partnership plan in place before reaching out. Teague welcomes conversations with employers about possible opportunities and is willing to visit Fairfield businesses to tour their workplaces and discuss how they could connect with students.

Indian Hills also typically provides résumé, application, and interview assistance to enrolled IHCC students, high school students within its 10-county region, and alumni.

To explore an employer partnership, offer a student experience, or share a job opening, contact Alyssa Teague, CTE Career Services Coordinator, at alyssa.hames@indianhills.edu or 641-683-5118.
