Fairfield Cares Celebrates One Year of Helpful Village
Fairfield Cares is inviting the community to celebrate the first anniversary of Helpful Village, a volunteer-supported program designed to help local seniors and individuals with challenging health issues remain independent in their homes.
Since launching last year, Helpful Village has grown to nearly 200 members and more than 100 volunteers. Through the online program, members can connect directly with volunteers who are available to help with a variety of everyday needs.
To date, volunteers have fulfilled more than 150 requests, including rides to medical appointments and church, grocery shopping, household tasks and social visits. Fairfield Cares also recently received grant funding to help reimburse volunteers for long-distance transportation to medical appointments, making it easier to meet an important need for local residents.
Beyond practical assistance, Fairfield Cares says the program has also helped create meaningful connections between volunteers and members. Those relationships can provide valuable social interaction and companionship for individuals who may otherwise experience isolation.
To recognize the program's first year and build support for its continued work, Fairfield Cares will host its 1st Anniversary Celebration of Helpful Village on Saturday, September 19, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. at The WELL, 1700 S. Main Street in Fairfield.
The celebration is free and open to the public.
Fairfield Cares is also seeking community sponsors to help support the anniversary event. Sponsorships of $150 or more received by August 28 will be recognized on event flyers and posters, as well as through the Fairfield Cares newsletter and Facebook page.
