FAA Art Opening for Doug Burbeck's Ceramic Pieces & Jewelry
The Fairfield Art Association announces a new retrospective exhibit of miniature ceramic pieces and jewelry by the artist Doug Burbeck in the Hallway Gallery at the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center in Fairfield Iowa. A reception will be held from 6-8 pm Friday November 6, and the exhibit will be on display through the end of December.
Doug Burbeck began painting on ceramic in 1971 and has been a full time ceramic artist since 1978. He developed a unique, highly detailed approach to using underglazes on greenware, or unfired clay. The clay pieces are then fired and glazed, and in some cases, gold and other lusters are applied and the pieces fired again. Many of these one-of-a-kind works are then mounted on jewelry findings to become wearable fine art.
He started his practice in California, and lived in Fairfield from 1982 until 2004, when he moved to Eagle Creek Oregon where he lived for over twenty years. He has recently returned to Fairfield, and has resumed his ceramics practice here.
This exhibit is a rare chance to see a wide selection of Burbeck’s most complex, detailed, and unusual work from the more than half a century over which he has been honing his craft.
