Austin Atwood Joins Ownership Team at Schaus-Vorhies Contracting (SVC)

FAIRFIELD, IA, March 26, 2026 – Schaus-Vorhies Contracting (SVC), a leader in construction and metal building systems, is excited to announce that Austin Atwood has been named a co-owner alongside Steve Thornton. This ownership expansion marks a key milestone in SVC’s next chapter of leadership and growth. It also coincides with the company’s 40th anniversary, which is being celebrated in 2026.

Atwood joined SVC in May 2021 as an estimator and project manager, quickly putting his technical expertise to use to strengthen company operations. His early guidance has helped SVC receive more bids, better manage projects, and build strong and lasting relationships with clients, vendors, and partners. While taking on expanded responsibilities in company strategy and management alongside Thornton in 2026 and beyond, Atwood will continue to lead SVC’s estimating and project management work.

“Last year was a great year for SVC, and Austin is a big part of the reason we’re growing,” says Thornton. “His leadership, knowledge, and drive align well with where we’re headed as a company. We’re positioning ourselves to do more of what we already do well, expand our design-build capabilities, and continue to invest in our people, equipment, and technology.”

With a degree in construction management from the University of Northern Iowa and a hands-on industry background built through internships and a full-time estimator role, Atwood brings nearly a decade of construction experience to SVC. His work on complex commercial and industrial projects gives him a strong foundation to estimate and manage projects from early planning through completion.

Atwood’s role complements the evolution already underway at SVC under Thornton, who became sole owner in 2025. Under Thornton’s leadership so far, the company has modernized operations, consolidated into a single headquarters, refreshed its brand, and focused on projects that allow crews to be home more often while still serving a growing geographic footprint. Atwood will help build on these investments, guiding SVC’s continued growth and service.
