🎄 Christmas in July: Keeping Fairfield’s Holiday Magic Alive 🎄

posted on 6/24/26

Fairfield—proudly known as the “Christmas City”—continues its tradition of preserving and enhancing the beloved Holiday Tradition on the Square, ensuring the magic remains strong for generations to come.

Last year, community support helped bring new life to several cherished displays, including the replacement of discolored candle decorations with beautiful new lampposts and an upgraded Elf House. These improvements refreshed some of the most iconic elements of Fairfield’s holiday experience.

This year, that momentum continues with additional upgrades planned, including two new family-friendly photo opportunities designed to create even more memorable holiday moments for residents and visitors alike.

The project has been made possible in part through a LOST grant from the City of Fairfield, though recent pricing increases have resulted in costs exceeding the original budget by more than $1,000.

Annually, the Chamber invests more than $1,000 in maintaining existing holiday displays. This past year, maintenance costs were significantly higher, and we also experienced an increase in vandalism. In one instance, a reindeer display sustained damage when a leg was broken off (more than once). Because many of these displays have been part of Fairfield’s holiday tradition for decades, they require ongoing care, repair, and upkeep each year to remain safe, functional, and beautiful.

“Christmas in July is an important part of how we make sure Fairfield’s Holiday Tradition on the Square continues to grow and thrive,” said Mendy McAdams, Executive Director of the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce. “This mid-year fundraiser allows us to plan ahead and purchase items when they are on sale or available at better pricing earlier in the year, which helps us stretch every dollar further.”

“Keeping this tradition going is deeply important to us. The magic of seeing children visit Santa, experience the displays, and make lifelong memories is something we are proud to help create for families in our community. We love being able to make that happen year after year.”

Holiday Tradition on the Square is more than a seasonal event—it is a decades-long community memory-maker that continues to bring families together year after year.
