Origami Workshop

Date & Time: The 1st Saturday of the Month | 1:00-2:30pm.

Audience: Adults & Youth Age 12 and Up 

Origami, the art of paper folding, originated in Japan in the 7th century, and today is firmly established as an international art form. Join local enthusiast and origami guide Vedder Wright for an intro to origami class. All are welcome, from the humblest of beginners to longtime origami practitioners. All materials will be provided for free to participants. Due to limited space, RSVP is required for this event. This class is intended for participants age 12 and up.

Unlimited amateur photographers welcome. All visitors understand Wolf Creek Family Farm is a working farm and agree to the waiver, indemnification and hold harmless agreement.

If it’s not clear, I don’t know how to say $25 not per person.  The idea is that a family could come for only $25, take a few selfies, take home a bouquet, and have a good day out.

Our costume concert returns with Superman, E.T., and Star Wars! Look up in the sky... It's a bird. It's a plane. It's....Maestro Bob McConnell! This 45 minute concert is perfect for kids of all ages and will feature selections from Superman, E.T., and Star Wars.

Join the orchestra as we celebrate Halloween in your own halloween costume! Take photos at our costume photo booth, enjoy some delicious treats, and make memories that last a lifetime. After the concert, everyone can explore the magic of music by meeting the instruments and their musicians up close on stage. Jefferson County Board of Supervisors Meeting

Meetings

The Board of Supervisors meets at 8:30 a.m. on most Mondays, and members of the public are welcome to attend. However, it is recommended that any agenda items be submitted in advance to the Auditor’s office no later than noon on Thursday prior to the meeting.

Minutes of the Board meetings are available for public viewing in the County Auditor’s office in the Courthouse, are on the Agenda & Minutes page, and are published weekly in the official county newspapers.

Supervisors Description & Duties

County governments are the quiet, consistent providers of essential services. The Board of Supervisors are the administrative / legislative branch of county government.

Responsibilities Include and Are Not Limited To:

• Setting the county budget & tax levy.
• Approve bonds and reports.
• Hire and supervise non-elected department heads.
• Set county policies. (See Jefferson County Code of Ordinances).

Terms & Elections

• The three Jefferson County Supervisors are elected to serve staggered four-year terms.
• Elections are held every 2 years.

Join local volunteer Barbara Rainbow for a monthly group exploration of genealogy and local history. Mah Jongg is a tile-based game that was developed in the 19th century in China and has spread throughout the world since the early 20th century. Players at FPL play an American variation of the game every week at the library. Stop by and see how the game is played and join the group if you want to learn the game. Teaching instruction for new players will take place in the first 30 minutes each week. The library also offers introductory books for check-out.

JCHC Parkinson's Support Group

The Jefferson County Parkinson’s Support Group is a Community Group that meets once a month with support from JCHC and the Iowa Chapter of the American Parkinson’s Disease Association (APDA)- “Strength in Optimism. Hope in Progress.” The group meets the first Thursday of the month at 10 a.m. in JCHC Conference Room C. (Use the McCreery Cancer Center entrance.) The purpose of the group is to learn, engage in discussions with others, share experiences, tips, and ideas about living with Parkinson's disease or being a care partner, provide mutual support, and foster a sense of community. Magic: The Gathering CPDH League

CPDH (Competitive Pauper EDH) is a Magic: The Gathering format that combines the budget-friendly nature of Pauper with the multiplayer dynamics of Commander. In CPDH, players build 100-card singleton decks led by an uncommon creature as the commander, but all other cards must be commons. The format emphasizes efficiency, synergy, and strategic play within tight deck-building restrictions, making it a popular choice for players who enjoy competitive gameplay without high financial cost.

Visual Spectrums Exhibit Debut

The Visual Spectrums Collaborative Arts Project is a unique traveling exhibit that celebrates visual diversity by exploring the arts experience for people with varying sight abilities.

This exhibit is the culmination of a year-long collaborative effort by artists and art appreciators across Southeast Iowa and features works by artists Jessica Bly, Miriam Alarcon Avila, Sarah Fitzgerald, Sena Graham, and Joan McCracken Thomas. Collectively, these works engage the senses of touch, sound, and smell to convey the essence of visual art. Special thanks also goes to Lori Banos, who provided Braille signage for the exhibit, and space designer Ashley Phillips, who worked with art appreciators with unique visual experiences to conceptualize a space that includes changeable lighting, audio cues, and pieces that can be adjusted for closeup viewing.

Support for this work is provided by the Big Field Fund, a program of Public Space One. Funding is provided by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. Come join us to see art differently!

Time to make a difference! Plant the Park is a day where volunteers help install prairie plants grown from Jefferson County Park's propagation box. With these plants, we are supporting countless species of pollinators and birds for years to come!

What to bring: A hand trowel, shovel, gloves, hat, long sleeve work clothes, and boots

Meetings

The Board of Supervisors meets at 8:30 a.m. on most Mondays, and members of the public are welcome to attend. However, it is recommended that any agenda items be submitted in advance to the Auditor’s office no later than noon on Thursday prior to the meeting.

Minutes of the Board meetings are available for public viewing in the County Auditor’s office in the Courthouse, are on the Agenda & Minutes page, and are published weekly in the official county newspapers.

Supervisors Description & Duties

County governments are the quiet, consistent providers of essential services. The Board of Supervisors are the administrative / legislative branch of county government.

Responsibilities Include and Are Not Limited To:

• Setting the county budget & tax levy.
• Approve bonds and reports.
• Hire and supervise non-elected department heads.
• Set county policies. (See Jefferson County Code of Ordinances).

Terms & Elections

• The three Jefferson County Supervisors are elected to serve staggered four-year terms.
• Elections are held every 2 years.

Shut Up and Write is a chance for writers to sit quietly together and work on their writing projects. 

All writers and all experience levels are welcome, and dont worry, no one will see what you've written. This hour is about getting your writing done.

Mah Jongg is a tile-based game that was developed in the 19th century in China and has spread throughout the world since the early 20th century. Players at FPL play an American variation of the game every week at the library. Stop by and see how the game is played and join the group if you want to learn the game. Teaching instruction for new players will take place in the first 30 minutes each week. The library also offers introductory books for check-out.

PIEOWA: A Piece of America

Pie is not only an iconic American dessert, it is a nonpartisan symbol kindness, comfort, generosity, unity, and love—all the things we need more of right now. To convey how something as simple as a homemade pie can make the world a better place, filmmaker, author, and piemaker Beth M. Howard aims her lens at her native Iowa, where pie is woven into the state’s cultural fabric. From church fundraisers to old diners, farmers markets, myriad pie shops, international flavors, Iowa State Fair competitions, the next generation of piemakers, and a 500-mile bike ride across the state where people come from all over the world just to eat pie. We learn how pie, an immigrant that can be traced back to ancient Egypt, is as diverse as America’s population. Wholesome, heartfelt, and hopeful, PIEOWA: A PIECE OF AMERICA, is as satisfying as a slice of warm apple pie.

This screening will feature a special introduction, followed by a post-film Q&A with the Director, Producer, and Writer, Beth M. Howard.

Jefferson County Board of Supervisors Meeting

Meetings

The Board of Supervisors meets at 8:30 a.m. on most Mondays, and members of the public are welcome to attend. However, it is recommended that any agenda items be submitted in advance to the Auditor’s office no later than noon on Thursday prior to the meeting.

Minutes of the Board meetings are available for public viewing in the County Auditor’s office in the Courthouse, are on the Agenda & Minutes page, and are published weekly in the official county newspapers.

Supervisors Description & Duties

County governments are the quiet, consistent providers of essential services. The Board of Supervisors are the administrative / legislative branch of county government.

Responsibilities Include and Are Not Limited To:

• Setting the county budget & tax levy.
• Approve bonds and reports.
• Hire and supervise non-elected department heads.
• Set county policies. (See Jefferson County Code of Ordinances).

Terms & Elections

• The three Jefferson County Supervisors are elected to serve staggered four-year terms.
• Elections are held every 2 years.

The Jefferson County Health Center Diabetes Community Group is a welcoming and supportive space for individuals living with diabetes, as well as their families and caregivers. This group offers a chance to connect with others who understand the day-to-day challenges of managing diabetes, while learning helpful tips, sharing experiences, and receiving guidance from healthcare professionals. Whether you’re newly diagnosed or have been managing diabetes for years, this group is here to empower you with knowledge, encouragement, and community.

The purpose of the group is to learn, engage in discussions with others, share experiences, tips, and ideas about living with Diabetes or being a care partner, provide mutual support, and foster a sense of community.

This program is designed for homeschool students to explore the park throughout the year. Each month we will have activities for the two different age groups. The younger age group for Kindergarten through 2nd grade students will meet from 10:00 – 12:00pm. The older group is for students in 3rd grade – 5th grade and runs from 1:00 – 3:00pm. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

This month, we will be learning about Iowa’s prairie history and harvesting seeds to be used for future prairie plantings in Jefferson County.

Jefferson County Board of Supervisors Meeting

Meetings

The Board of Supervisors meets at 8:30 a.m. on most Mondays, and members of the public are welcome to attend. However, it is recommended that any agenda items be submitted in advance to the Auditor’s office no later than noon on Thursday prior to the meeting.

Minutes of the Board meetings are available for public viewing in the County Auditor’s office in the Courthouse, are on the Agenda & Minutes page, and are published weekly in the official county newspapers.

Supervisors Description & Duties

County governments are the quiet, consistent providers of essential services. The Board of Supervisors are the administrative / legislative branch of county government.

Responsibilities Include and Are Not Limited To:

• Setting the county budget & tax levy.
• Approve bonds and reports.
• Hire and supervise non-elected department heads.
• Set county policies. (See Jefferson County Code of Ordinances).

Terms & Elections

• The three Jefferson County Supervisors are elected to serve staggered four-year terms.
• Elections are held every 2 years.

Join us for an 8-week support group designed to help you heal after the loss of a loved one.

Mah Jongg is a tile-based game that was developed in the 19th century in China and has spread throughout the world since the early 20th century. Players at FPL play an American variation of the game every week at the library. Stop by and see how the game is played and join the group if you want to learn the game. Teaching instruction for new players will take place in the first 30 minutes each week. The library also offers introductory books for check-out.

Pies For a Cause

The Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to partner with Addington Place of Fairfield for the Pies for a Cause fundraiser — a delicious way to give back to our community while helping preserve one of Fairfield’s most cherished holiday traditions.

Join us on Wednesday, November 26 from 2:00–4:00 PM at Addington Place (3000 W. Madison Avenue, Suite 500) for an afternoon filled with warm hospitality, sweet aromas, and hometown spirit. For just $10 per pie, you can pre-order a freshly baked apple, pumpkin, or cherry pie — the perfect addition to your Thanksgiving table. All proceeds will go toward repairs and much-needed updates to the beloved Christmas displays that light up the downtown square each holiday season.

While picking up your pie, take a tour of Addington Place’s beautiful senior living community and meet their wonderful team, who have generously joined forces with the Chamber to make this fundraiser possible. Holiday Lighting Ceremony

The Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce will continue its decades old tradition of officially kicking of the Holiday season with our Annual Lighting Ceremony on the square!

See the town square come to life! The Annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony will be held on Friday, November 28th, 2025 at Central Park in Fairfield. To kick off the illumination and subsequently the holiday season, the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce organizes this festive tradition with the lights being turned on at 6:00pm.

The Fairfield High School Choir will set the mood by singing Holiday music at 5:30pm. The current Citizens of the Year, Diane Goudy and Werner Elmker, will throw the switch to turn on the lights for the season. The lights will be turned on at 6:00pm sharp.

After arriving to town as the lights come on, Santa can be found in the Santa House listening to the children share their hopes for the holiday season. There will also be horse drawn wagon rides around the square for the kids. Free hot cocoa and cookies will be handed out at the Santa House. An evening not to be missed!

Return every Friday and Saturday evening to see Santa from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm each evening where you can get your photo taken with him then stop in at the workshop and add your photo to an ornament.
