Summer is a great time to get out in nature! With so many plants and animals out there to see, why not start a nature journal this year? Although drawing is not required for journaling, it is an area that a lot of people wish to include and improve upon.
Join local artist, Kathy Tollenaere at this month’s Birdy Brunch meeting to learn some tips and tricks for creating better nature drawings. We will be making pencil drawings from photo examples and utilizing colored pencils to blend colors.
All experience levels welcome and supplies will be provided!

Why Volunteer With Us?
By joining our kitchen, you're not just preparing meals – you're strengthening our community, one plate at a time. Here's how your contribution makes a difference:
- You'll help create delicious, plant-based meals for all, regardless of their ability to pay.
- Your efforts support our mission to reduce food waste by working with local food systems.
- You'll be part of a welcoming space where community members from all walks of life come together.
We need your help! Our kitchen runs best with 6 volunteers per shift, but often we're operating with just our kitchen director and a few helpers. Whether you can volunteer once a month or make it a weekly habit, your time is invaluable to us. Regular volunteers are especially appreciated as they help us maintain consistent operations.
Ready to make a difference? Sign up HERE and become part of our Stone Soup story!
Can't volunteer? You can still support the cause with your donation. Donate HERE. Donations are tax deductible!

Our Market at a Glance
First organized in 1975, we have become SE Iowa’s most well known farmer’s market. Customers are always pleased, and vendors can’t wait to bring their goods to such a vibrant community of buyers.
The market is intended to provide an opportunity for individuals to sell approved items, which are produced or manufactured by them in their garden, farm or home. Vendors may sell only those products that are approved items and that are grown or made by them.
We are organized as a 501c3 non-profit and manged by a Market Advisory Board. We have expanded to accept vendors from all surounded counties, plus three more counties.
Friendly Local Merchants
All of our vendors are friendly and helpful.
Feel free to talk with them when you visit our market.
Join us in this happy event every week.

It Works!
“In just a few years, everything on my vision board came true—except for one thing.”
A vision board is a powerful, creative tool—a collage of images, quotes, and affirmations—designed to visually represent your goals, dreams, and desired feelings, helping to manifest them by keeping your aspirations top-of-mind. By placing it in a prominent, daily-view spot like your bedroom, home office, or digital desktop, you maintain focus and motivation to actively pursue your life’s vision.
You will create and go home with your own personal vision board.

-
One-on-one assistance from our facilitator to help with layout, color choices, and meaningful wording.

Fairfield, IAJune 6, 2026

Native plants can restore biodiversity and support pollinators. Sierra Club’s Native Plant Garden Club has been propagating native plants for transplanting for several months, and will be giving them away “free to good homes” at this event. Iowa Prairie Network board member and biologist Dan Sears and other experienced gardeners will be on site to advise on how to establish these transplants and ensure that they thrive.

Join DJ every other Sunday for this epic high fantasy D&D campaign.
Old stones up in the mountains hold the stories; a king becoming sick with greed; with wanting of more and more wealth, and a dwarven civilization of gold and diamond. To have such plentiful gold that it was as valuable as timber or stone in its day. Gold was a building material while currency was polished wood mined from tree roots. Something long ago forced the dwarves to abandon Al’Khaz, the city of gold. Its location, all its wealth, and all of its technology, all lost to time. Some say it was stolen away by the sea, some claim it was lifted into the sky to live among the clouds, others theorize that it left for a different plane entirely. As the humble and fabled people of Aegravalon struggles to defend Tregaidaran from the forces of Dourlaran and their terrible plans of land development, our heroes are faced with evidence that maybe Al’Khaz could be found. And if it can be found, maybe there is hope to win this war after all.---

The Pax Natura Foundation presents Seeds of Sovereignty, a film by Stuart J. Tanner.
After a successful international festival run with over 70 official selections, 24 awards, and screenings in more than 30 countries, the film is coming to Fairfield for two special community screenings at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center.
Screenings will take place on Saturday, June 6 at 7:00 PM and Sunday, June 7 at 2:30 PM. Both screenings will be followed by a Q&A and community discussion.
Mexico stands at a crossroads, fighting to protect its native seeds, lands, and people from the encroachment of genetically modified crops and toxic agrochemicals. Seeds of Sovereignty was born from urgency, a response to a battle that is both deeply local and undeniably global. More than a film about agriculture, it is about identity, resistance, and the right to shape our future. Through legal victories, grassroots movements, and striking visuals, the documentary asks what happens when profit is placed above human and environmental health. The goal of the film is not only to inform, but to immerse audiences in this struggle and inspire action. The fight to protect native maize in Mexico reflects a broader global question about food sovereignty, biodiversity, and the future of farming itself.
More than a film, Seeds of Sovereignty is an invitation to reflect on our relationship to food, land, culture, and the future we are collectively creating.
Free showing. Donations accepted.

It is a beautiful way to express yourself, have fun, connect with others and be playful! This will be a shorter version of the ecstatic dance that takes place two times a week at different places in Fairfield, either inside or outside. Please bring water. Facilitated by Indigo Akhila.
12:30 - 1:45 Latin, Ballroom and Swing Dancing
"Feel it in your heart and feel it in your soul; let the music take control" - Lionel Richie. We will introduce a variety of dance styles and the music that goes with each. Then we will do a simple group exercise and line dance followed by a demonstration of partner dancing. Facilitated by Paul Saipher.
2 - 3:15 Tai Chi
Tai Chi is a gentle and flowing martial art originating from China, often described as "meditation in motion". It involves a series of slow, deliberate movements and postures, accompanied by focused breathing and mental intention. Please bring an open heart. Facilitated by Doug McKenty.
3:30 - 4:45 Improv Acting
An introduction to short-form improv games (e.g. “Who’s Line is it Anyway"). A playful practice that elevates your vibrational energy, aligns you with the flow of creativity, and awakens new pathways of perception and connection. Through spontaneous scenes, group games, and joyful collaboration, you’ll shift out of routine patterns and resonate with laughter and presence, harmonize with others to experience the magic of collective energy, and amplify your inner creativity, so your authentic self can truly shine. Perfect for beginners and seasoned performers alike, this workshop will leave you energized, inspired, and more connected to yourself and everyone around you. Facilitated by Solomon Davis.
5 - 6:15 Ancient Sound Bath
Immerse yourself in the soothing interplay of Tambouras and voices of soloists Narayani Om, Jesya Mauro, Ranjini Lassnig and Werner Elmker creating a rich tapestry of harmonics that will transport you to inner peace. The event will start with Shadaj Sadhana, the repeated intonation of a deep tone accompanied by Tambouras. This will be followed by a number of short solo performances. Participants will have a choice of either just listening to the sound bath or actively participating in Shadaj Sadhana. Facilitated by Werner Elmker.
6:15 - 8pm Dinner & Music
Downstairs at the Stone Soup Community Kitchen we will be serving a delicious dinner accompanied by live band music. This is a great opportunity to check out your local community kitchen if you never have before! It’s open to all.
All events are donation based and taking place in the upstairs sanctuary space. Enter through the big purple doors out front (except for the dinner, which is downstairs through the entrance on Washington)

Jump-Start is a 6-week sports performance program for incoming 4th–6th graders who are ready to train with purpose. Athletes develop foundational skills that carry over to any sport: proper warm-up routines, basic strength and body control, speed, coordination, and movement mechanics.
This is about building confidence, discipline, and a solid understanding of how to train heading into fall sports season.
New athletes complete a 1-on-1 Start-Up Session before joining. We'll reach out to schedule once you register. Athletes who previously completed FUNdamentals may join without the Start-Up Session.

A vision board is a powerful, creative tool—a collage of images, quotes, and affirmations—designed to visually represent your goals, dreams, and desired feelings, helping to manifest them by keeping your aspirations top-of-mind. What to Expect as a Volunteer
- Flexible Roles: Whether you prefer cooking, serving, or cleaning, we have a spot for you
- Inclusive Environment: All ability levels are welcome – no prior experience necessary.
- Community Impact: Help provide nutritious meals to those in need while reducing food waste.
- Learning Opportunity: Gain kitchen skills and connect with diverse community members.

ROOTS SO DEEP is the cinematic portrayal of one of the most hopeful and transformative movements in modern agriculture.
The film tells the story of inventive cattle farmers and maverick scientists who are reimagining how we work with the land, tracing their journey from conventional practices rooted in generations of tradition to a revolutionary approach that mimics the way bison once roamed the plains. Highlighting both the human stories on both sides of the fence and the groundbreaking research measuring soil health, carbon drawdown, biodiversity, and farmer prosperity, the series gives audiences a front-row seat to the potential of adaptive, regenerative grazing as never before. This is where the solution begins.

Active Kids is a small-group fitness class designed to get incoming 4th–6th graders moving, building confidence, and developing habits that last. Geared toward building general fitness rather than sports performance skills, each session covers full-body strength and endurance, mobility and posture, core and cardiovascular conditioning, plus conversations around mindset, sleep, and nutrition.
No sports background needed, just a willingness to work hard and have a good time. Two separate 4-week blocks available, athletes can join one or both.
