In March, as things begin to thaw and awaken from their winter slumbers, birds begin to pair up or return from their time away. During these pairings, you can observe some interesting behaviors in the birds that can make them quite interesting to watch. Come learn about some of these interesting behaviors and some of the diagnostic behaviors that can help ID more difficult species.

The Young Artists Class will meet this Monday, March 2, at the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center in the same room as the Gift Shop. It will begin at 4:30 and end at 5:45. The following classes will continue to meet every other Monday.
Our Young Artists are starting an exciting new project in our upcoming class! Students will use their own interests and personalities to create an original autobiographical self-portrait—with a creative twist.
Inspired by agamograph pioneer Yaacov Agam, kids will design artwork that changes as you look at it from different angles. Along with their self-portrait, they'll use creative lettering to design their name as part of the artwork, combining drawing, design, and imagination into one dynamic piece.
This project is all about self-expression, creativity, and craftsmanship, and we can't wait to see each artist bring their unique story to life! ![]()
The class fee is $15.00 per child per class, including supplies. We accept Credit (a 3% Merchant Fee will be added to your credit payment). There is no charge for caregivers, and you are welcome to join as long as seats are available—which is usually the case. All materials provided — bring your imagination and get ready for fun!
Please let me know if you have any questions. I hope you and your child can join us.
Thanks,
Matt

Powerful Tools for Caregivers

Thirty-nine percent of all adult Americans are caring for an adult with a chronic health condition. Caregiving can be a stressful responsibility leading to poor health, mental distress, and less life satisfaction for the caregiver. It can also be challenging for caregivers to find the support that they need.
ISU Extension and Outreach offers educational resources for family caregivers. Powerful Tools for Caregivers is a program for caregivers who provide care for a spouse, parent, or friend with a chronic condition such as dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. The program provides information, support strategies, communication techniques, stress reduction ideas, and resources to assist family caregivers with their concerns related to caregiving.
A Powerful Tools for Caregivers of Adults with Chronic Conditions series is scheduled for six Tuesdays, February 10-March 17, from 1:00-2:30 PM at the Living Hope Bible Church in Eldon. The series will provide you with the tools you need to take care of yourself.
The program is being offered at no cost to participants. Although the true cost of this program is $40 per person, ISU Extension and Outreach Region 26 is offering it at no cost to participants, thanks to the funding of the Region 26 Extension Councils (Davis, Jefferson, Van Buren, and Wapello). Registration can be found online at https://go.iastate.edu/B4S4TX or by calling your local county Extension Office at 641-472-4166.
Caregivers who thrive, rather than just survive, understand that by taking care of themselves, they are better able to provide meaningful care. To learn more, visit www.extension.iastate.edu/humansciences/ptc.

Why Volunteer With Us?
By joining our kitchen, you're not just preparing meals – you're strengthening our community, one plate at a time. Here's how your contribution makes a difference:
- You'll help create delicious, plant-based meals for all, regardless of their ability to pay.
- Your efforts support our mission to reduce food waste by working with local food systems.
- You'll be part of a welcoming space where community members from all walks of life come together.
We need your help! Our kitchen runs best with 6 volunteers per shift, but often we're operating with just our kitchen director and a few helpers. Academy Award-winning writer and director Emerald Fennell (Saltburn) takes on Emily Brontë’s quintessential gothic novel. A ferocious love story set on the moors, “Wuthering Heights” follows Heathcliff (Elordi) and Catherine (Robbie) as desire gives way to obsession—and vengeance ripples across generations. After decades of adaptations by filmmakers from William Wyler to Luis Buñuel, Emerald Fennell’s glossy reimagining rejects strict fidelity in favor of an unconventional reinvention for a new generation.

Whether you can volunteer once a month or make it a weekly habit, your time is invaluable to us. Regular volunteers are especially appreciated as they help us maintain consistent operations.

The format emphasizes efficiency, synergy, and strategic play within tight deck-building restrictions, making it a popular choice for players who enjoy competitive gameplay without high financial cost.

March is when many of Iowa’s wildlife species begin to wake up from their winter slumbers. Birds return, skunks emerge, and frogs and toads begin to sing their spring songs. During this program, we will be constructing a small toad cottage that can be set out among your garden or landscaping to provide a cool shelter during hot summer days as well as foraging opportunities.
All materials will be provided. Parts for each toad cottage will be pre-cut and labelled for ease of construction. After, participants are welcome to take their creation home, or leave at the park to be set out for wildlife viewing opportunities in our county areas.

Join the Native Plant Garden Club for a lively discussion inspired by the work of Dr. Doug Tallamy, professor in the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware and co-founder of Homegrown National Park, whose research highlights the critical role of native plants in restoring biodiversity. Participants will share their experiences transforming lawns and gardens into thriving habitats that support pollinators, birds, and other wildlife. CPDH (Competitive Pauper EDH) is a Magic: The Gathering format that combines the budget-friendly nature of Pauper with the multiplayer dynamics of Commander. In CPDH, players build 100-card singleton decks led by an uncommon creature as the commander, but all other cards must be commons. The format emphasizes efficiency, synergy, and strategic play within tight deck-building restrictions, making it a popular choice for players who enjoy competitive gameplay without high financial cost.
