Fairfield First Fridays Art Walk

Fairfield 1st Fridays Art Walk has grown to become Fairfield’s signature cultural event. Each month, the Art Walk celebrates creativity, culture and community and supports the arts in all forms, bringing diverse groups together to express their creativity and passion for the arts. Whether you enjoy touring art galleries, tasting incredible foods, watching wonderful performances, every 1st Friday fills the air with magic and fun for all.

Our Market at a Glance

First organized in 1975, we have become SE Iowa’s most well known farmer’s market. Customers are always pleased, and vendors can’t wait to bring their goods to such a vibrant community of buyers.

The market is intended to provide an opportunity for individuals to sell approved items, which are produced or manufactured by them in their garden, farm or home. Vendors may sell only those products that are approved items and that are grown or made by them.

We are organized as a 501c3 non-profit and manged by a Market Advisory Board. We have expanded to accept vendors from all surounded counties, plus three more counties.

Dog Training Class: Puppy Kindergarten

🐾 Puppy Kindergarten at Indian Hills! 🐾
Is your pup ready for school? Enroll them in Puppy Kindergarten—a 5-week course for puppies 5 months and younger. Classes run Saturdays, July 19–August 16, 1–1:45pm, at Ottumwa's North Campus. $100 per pup.

Dementia Caregivers Support Group

2025 Classic 96 Live on the Square Concert Series; Brian Johannesen with special guest Steve McClain

Below is the schedule for the 21st year of Fairfield's Live on the Square. This year we will have a diverse lineup of 6 artists, starting June 28th and running through September 13th. All shows start at 7, and are made possible through the generosity of The City of Fairfield, Classic 96, Visitfairfield.com, Libertyville Savings Bank and C1st Credit Union.

8/2/25 Brian Johannesen with special guest Steve McClain

Brian Johannesen is an Iowa City singer-songwriter in the vein of John Prine, Guy Clark, and Steve Earle. Through a fingerpicking guitar style and a gritty, well-traveled voice, Johannesen writes songs that carry equal parts comedy and gravity. He brings a style to the long Americana tradition that is uniquely his own. Helping get the evening started will be Fairfield’s own music
laureate Steve McLain. 

8/23/25 The Hi Council 

The Hi Council is an alternative/grunge rock band that also plays a few country and pop songs in their creative style. With an evening of originals and amazing covers,The Hi Council consists of singer (Tugg Hill), guitarist (Riley Brown), bassist (Carter Spalla), and drummer (Chase Copeland), Live on the Square is very excited to have The Hi Council joining us in Central Park.

9/12  Drive-Ins 50’s and 60’s Rock and Roll Duo

Get ready to go back in time with the amazing Drive-Ins 50’s and 60’s Rock and Roll Duo. Performing HITS from Roy Orbison,  Beach Boys,  Eddie Cochran, The Beatles, Elvis, Buddy Holly, Ricky Nelson, Chuck Berry, and more…. The Drive-Ins have made a name for themselves across eastern Iowa as a good time summer band. With The Drive-Ins, you can expect an energetic, engaging evening with memories, dancing and more… even while you're doing the Twist!!! 

9/13/25 The Beaker Brothers 

For over 15 years the Beaker Brothers Band has been paying homage to the original Jam Bands of the late 60’s and early 70’s – the Allman Brothers, Clapton, Santana, Little Feat, Rolling Stones, James Gang, the Doors, Steely Dan, Neil Young, CCR, and many more. The Beaker Brothers Band isn’t a nostalgia act or a tribute show, they play music that has been in our heads and our hearts since we first heard it. This is the music we played in our youth. And we’re as awed by it today as then. We’re thrilled that we’re not alone.

Jefferson County Board of Supervisors Meeting

Meetings

The Board of Supervisors meets at 8:30 a.m. on most Mondays, and members of the public are welcome to attend. However, it is recommended that any agenda items be submitted in advance to the Auditor’s office no later than noon on Thursday prior to the meeting.

Minutes of the Board meetings are available for public viewing in the County Auditor’s office in the Courthouse, are on the Agenda & Minutes page, and are published weekly in the official county newspapers.

Supervisors Description & Duties

County governments are the quiet, consistent providers of essential services. The Board of Supervisors are the administrative / legislative branch of county government.

Responsibilities Include and Are Not Limited To:

• Setting the county budget & tax levy.
• Approve bonds and reports.
• Hire and supervise non-elected department heads.
• Set county policies. (See Jefferson County Code of Ordinances).

Terms & Elections

• The three Jefferson County Supervisors are elected to serve staggered four-year terms.
• Elections are held every 2 years.

Fairfield Genealogy Club

Join local volunteer Barbara Rainbow for a monthly group exploration of genealogy and local history. Participants are welcome to bring any materials they would like to share or discuss with the group. In the coming months, particpants can look forward to presentations on learning to navigate ancestry.com, delve into the library's genealogy collection together, and make new friends!

JCHC Parkinson's Support Group

The Jefferson County Parkinson’s Support Group is a Community Group that meets once a month with support from JCHC and the Iowa Chapter of the American Parkinson’s Disease Association (APDA)- “Strength in Optimism. Hope in Progress.” The group meets the first Tuesday of the month at 4:00 p.m. in JCHC Conference Room C. (Use the McCreery Cancer Center entrance.) The purpose of the group is to learn, engage in discussions with others, share experiences, tips, and ideas about living with Parkinson's disease or being a care partner, provide mutual support, and foster a sense of community. Event: Fairfield Community Band – Summer Concert Series
Location: Central Park Gazebo, Fairfield Square

Nothing says summer quite like the sound of a community band drifting across the town square. Starting Monday, July 1, and continuing for six weeks, the Fairfield Community Band will fill Central Park with music, memory, and a touch of small-town magic.

Join us at the gazebo each Monday evening from 8 to 9 PM as local musicians share their time, talent, and love of music with the community. These are your neighbors, your teachers, your retirees—coming together to play everything from patriotic marches to toe-tapping swing tunes and sentimental classics.

Bring your lawn chairs, your kids, your grandma. Let the music take you back—or forward—or just help you breathe a little easier for an hour. Ice cream vendors will be on-site to keep it cool and sweet.

Whether you’re a longtime resident or just passing through, this is the kind of night that reminds you why places like Fairfield still matter. Come early, stay late, and soak in a sliver of Americana.

Stroller Storytime

Join the Fairifeld Public Library for Stroller Storytime every Wednesday! Bring your toddlers along for a walk through Cedar View Trail with stops along the way for stories provided by the library staff. 

Mah Jongg

Mah Jongg is a tile-based game that was developed in the 19th century in China and has spread throughout the world since the early 20th century. Players at FPL play an American variation of the game every week at the library. Stop by and see how the game is played and join the group if you want to learn the game. Teaching instruction for new players will take place the first Friday of each month. The library also offers introductory books for check-out.

• Community Impact: Help provide nutritious meals to those in need while reducing food waste.

Family Bike Ride

Join FPL volunteer Wayne Ades for a Family Bike Ride the second Friday of each month at Chautauqua Park. Meet at the playground at 5:00 PM the ride will begin at 5:15. All participants age 10 and under should be accompanied by an adult.

Join local enthusiast and origami guide Vedder Wright for an intro to origami class. All are welcome, from the humblest of beginners to longtime origami practitioners. Live on the Square- Brian Johannesen

Fairfield’s Live on the Square concert series is back for its 21st year, and you’re invited to be part of the fun. Join us for six free outdoor concerts at the corner of East Burlington and North Main Street, starting June 28 and running through September 13. Each show begins at 7:00 p.m.—just bring your lawn chairs, grab a spot on the square, and enjoy a summer evening filled with great music, good company, and small-town charm. Up next in the series: Iowa City-based Americana artist Brian Johannesen, known for his rich songwriting and heartfelt performances.

Stroller Storytime

Join the Fairifeld Public Library for Stroller Storytime every Wednesday! Bring your toddlers along for a walk through Cedar View Trail with stops along the way for stories provided by the library staff. 

Mah Jongg

Mah Jongg is a tile-based game that was developed in the 19th century in China and has spread throughout the world since the early 20th century. Players at FPL play an American variation of the game every week at the library. Stop by and see how the game is played and join the group if you want to learn the game. Teaching instruction for new players will take place the first Friday of each month. The library also offers introductory books for check-out.

First organized in 1975, we have become SE Iowa’s most well known farmer’s market. Customers are always pleased, and vendors can’t wait to bring their goods to such a vibrant community of buyers.

The market is intended to provide an opportunity for individuals to sell approved items, which are produced or manufactured by them in their garden, farm or home. Vendors may sell only those products that are approved items and that are grown or made by them.

We are organized as a 501c3 non-profit and manged by a Market Advisory Board. We have expanded to accept vendors from all surounded counties, plus three more counties.

Southeast Iowa Art and Book Fair

The Southeast Iowa Art & Book Fair is coming to Fairfield on August 16 at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center. This community event will feature local authors and artists sharing their work with the public. Authors are invited to meet readers, sign books, and sell their titles in a welcoming, creative environment. The Maketricks Collective will host a juried art show and sale as part of the festivities. Join us for a celebration of regional talent in literature and the arts.

Calling All Local Authors! If you’ve published a book—whether self-published or traditionally published—you’re invited to participate in the Southeast Iowa Art & Book Fair. Authors of all genres (fiction or nonfiction) are welcome. Each author will be provided space to display, discuss, and sell signed copies of their books.

Table rental:

Half table: $40 (early bird, by May 31), $50 (after)

Full table: $60–$70 (for authors with multiple titles)

Includes: 8-foot table, tablecloth, and chairs

Stroller Storytime

Join the Fairifeld Public Library for Stroller Storytime every Wednesday! Bring your toddlers along for a walk through Cedar View Trail with stops along the way for stories provided by the library staff. 

Mah Jongg

Mah Jongg is a tile-based game that was developed in the 19th century in China and has spread throughout the world since the early 20th century. Players at FPL play an American variation of the game every week at the library. Stop by and see how the game is played and join the group if you want to learn the game. Teaching instruction for new players will take place the first Friday of each month. The library also offers introductory books for check-out.

We are organized as a 501c3 non-profit and manged by a Market Advisory Board. We have expanded to accept vendors from all surounded counties, plus three more counties.

Advanced Origami Workshop; Registration Required

Audience: Adults & Youth Age 12 and Up 

Origami, the art of paper folding, originated in Japan in the 7th century, and today is firmly established as an international art form. Join local enthusiast and origami guide Vedder Wright for an advanced origami workshop. All are welcome, but the organizers ask that participants do have some prior experience. All materials will be provided for free to participants. Due to limited space, RSVP is required for this event. This class is intended for students age 12 and up.

2025 Classic 96 Live on the Square Concert Series; The Hi Council

Below is the schedule for the 21st year of Fairfield's Live on the Square. This year we will have a diverse lineup of 6 artists, starting June 28th and running through September 13th. The Hi Council is an alternative/grunge rock band that also plays a few country and pop songs in their creative style. With an evening of originals and amazing covers,The Hi Council consists of singer (Tugg Hill), guitarist (Riley Brown), bassist (Carter Spalla), and drummer (Chase Copeland), Live on the Square is very excited to have The Hi Council joining us in Central Park.

Get ready to go back in time with the amazing Drive-Ins 50’s and 60’s Rock and Roll Duo. Performing HITS from Roy Orbison,  Beach Boys,  Eddie Cochran, The Beatles, Elvis, Buddy Holly, Ricky Nelson, Chuck Berry, and more…. The Drive-Ins have made a name for themselves across eastern Iowa as a good time summer band. With The Drive-Ins, you can expect an energetic, engaging evening with memories, dancing and more… even while you're doing the Twist!!! 

9/13/25 The Beaker Brothers 

For over 15 years the Beaker Brothers Band has been paying homage to the original Jam Bands of the late 60’s and early 70’s – the Allman Brothers, Clapton, Santana, Little Feat, Rolling Stones, James Gang, the Doors, Steely Dan, Neil Young, CCR, and many more. The Beaker Brothers Band isn’t a nostalgia act or a tribute show, they play music that has been in our heads and our hearts since we first heard it. This is the music we played in our youth. And we’re as awed by it today as then. We’re thrilled that we’re not alone.

Jefferson County Board of Supervisors Meeting

Meetings

The Board of Supervisors meets at 8:30 a.m. on most Mondays, and members of the public are welcome to attend. However, it is recommended that any agenda items be submitted in advance to the Auditor’s office no later than noon on Thursday prior to the meeting.

Minutes of the Board meetings are available for public viewing in the County Auditor’s office in the Courthouse, are on the Agenda & Minutes page, and are published weekly in the official county newspapers.

Supervisors Description & Duties

County governments are the quiet, consistent providers of essential services. The Board of Supervisors are the administrative / legislative branch of county government.

Responsibilities Include and Are Not Limited To:

• Setting the county budget & tax levy.
• Approve bonds and reports.
• Hire and supervise non-elected department heads.
• Set county policies. (See Jefferson County Code of Ordinances).

Terms & Elections

• The three Jefferson County Supervisors are elected to serve staggered four-year terms.
• Elections are held every 2 years.

If you or someone you know is newly diagnosed with diabetes—or hasn't had the opportunity for formal diabetes education—this class is for you.

Led by a team of experts including Diabetes Educator Amy Martin, RN, CDCES, Registered Dietitian Collette Banda, Pharmacist Katie Mitchell, and Physical Therapist Andre Popich, these sessions cover all 9 key aspects of Diabetes Self-Management.

Our Market at a Glance

First organized in 1975, we have become SE Iowa’s most well known farmer’s market. Customers are always pleased, and vendors can’t wait to bring their goods to such a vibrant community of buyers.

The market is intended to provide an opportunity for individuals to sell approved items, which are produced or manufactured by them in their garden, farm or home. Vendors may sell only those products that are approved items and that are grown or made by them.

We are organized as a 501c3 non-profit and manged by a Market Advisory Board. We have expanded to accept vendors from all surounded counties, plus three more counties.
