The Sky Factory and the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce are partnering to show high school students the great variety of careers which are available in this unique business! On Monday, January 15th, Fairfield High School students are invited to The Sky Factory from 10:00am-12:00pm on their ‘No School Monday’. Students will also hear about ‘Financial Aid Tips & Tricks’ from the knowledgeable staff from Indian Hills Community College, tour The Sky Factory Facility, hear from a panel of employees, and wrap up with a free lunch. This program is relevant to both students planning to obtain a college degree and those who plan to directly enter the workforce after high school. Pre-registration is required for the event. The Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce is excited about this new opportunity for the community! ![]() The University of Iowa Venture School, a premier statewide program for entrepreneurs developed by the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center (Iowa JPEC), is once again accepting applications from startups across the state of Iowa. The upcoming spring program will host locations in Iowa City, Sioux City, Des Moines, Quad Cities, and Dubuque. There will be two application deadlines: January 16, for the Iowa City, Sioux City, and online locations. February 6, for the Dubuque, Des Moines, and Quad Cities locations. The Nelson Company will host a Business After Hours on Friday, December 22nd from 4:30-7:00pm. Food and drinks will be provided in addition to tours of the plant. The Nelson Company is located at 1200 West Stone Avenue.
The Nelson Company’s trained machinists machine parts that are sent worldwide to be used in the assembly of mostly agriculture-related equipment. They buy aluminum; ductile iron and gray iron castings and machine them into usable parts. They assist customers in placing their tooling with the appropriate foundry to best suit their needs.
