See Fairfield’s square come to life with holiday cheer! The Annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony will be held on Friday, November 29th, at Central Park in Fairfield. To commence the illumination and the holiday season, the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce organizes this festive tradition with the lights being turned on at 6:00pm.

Special thanks to our Holiday Lighting Ceremony Sponsor, Everybody's Whole Foods!

The Fairfield High School Choir will set the mood by singing Holiday music at 5:30pm. The Chamber Christmas Committee chooses one citizen, whom best exemplifies the holiday spirit, and presents them with the opportunity to throw the switch on the lights and for the season. This citizen will be announced at 5:55pm so the lights can be turned on at 6:00pm sharp. After arriving to town as the lights come on, Santa can be found in the Kandy Kane House listening to the children share their hopes for the holiday season. There will also be horse drawn wagon rides around the square for the kids. An evening not to be missed!

Leadership Fairfield - November Session

11/14/2019

Leadership Fairfield met at the beginning of the month for their November session. November's session was centered around Health and Fitness. The class listened to a presentation on Emotional Intelligence from Joel Pedersen and then went and toured Jefferson County Health Center in the morning. They enjoyed lunch at the JCHC cafeteria; a small cafe that is open to the public.

In the afternoon, the class traveled to the Ambulance Bay in Fairfield and learned a lot about the daily life of our local emergency responders and paramedics. Iowa is currently a state that does not consider ambulatory services an essential service; meaning they do not receive state funding and function out of personal contracts with the city.

Also in the afternoon, the class listened to a panel of local experts presenting on mental health. Fairfield has unique services to offer for those that struggle with mental health issues and unique services to offer for those who are in a caretaker role. For more information on this subject, please contact the Chamber at 641-472-2111.

To end the day, the Leadership Fairfield class participated in a fun group activity and discussed the results of taking the MBTI Personality Assessment from last month. Next month, the class will meet on Tuesday, December 3rd.

ATW Training Solutions - Southeastern Iowa Working Leader Series

11/12/2019

Southeastern Iowa Working Leader Series

ATW Training Solutions has partnered with area Chambers to offer a comprehensive training package in Southeastern Iowa! We’re excited to announce a partnership with the following Chambers: Washington, Fort Madison, Oskaloosa, Burlington, Fairfield, Ottumwa, Mount Pleasant, and Muscatine. Through this partnership, we’ve identified the need to serve Working Leaders in these communities.  So, what is a Working Leader? Read on!

The title may differ…Manufacturing Production Lead…Lead Teller...Call Center Lead…but the expectations are the same. This person is a Working Leader. Many are challenged by lack of formal authority and other constraints, but expected nonetheless to perform at the highest level for their teams and organization.  So, we’re rolling out our proven training approach to companies in Southeastern Iowa by offering a Working Leader Series! Check it out…

Session 1: Communication Essentials – (November 12, 2019 1:00pm - 4:00pm) - Location TBD Everything in the workplace revolves around communication. Whether we are communicating as working leaders face-to-face or over the telephone, we must ensure the message sent is the message received. During this session, we will cover the fundamentals of effective communication. These fundamentals appear to be simple, yet we often fail to implement effectively and consistently.

Session 2: On-the-Job Training Techniques - (December 10, 2019 1:00pm - 4:00pm) - Location TBD In today’s “maximize resources” world, many working leaders are being called upon not only to perform their own duties, but to train others. While showing competency on the job, most working leaders aren’t equipped to be effective trainers. In this session we introduce Subject Matter Experts to adult learning theory through case studies, lecture, role play, and discussion. Participants will learn how to structure on-the-job training, encourage dialogue with trainees, recognize learning hurdles, and contribute to expected company results through their training efforts.

Session 3: Peer to Peer Feedback - (January 7, 2020 1:00pm - 4:00pm) - Location TBD Every day we give and receive feedback to others, which we mostly do informally. In the workplace, it’s important for working leaders to formalize our feedback process to provide feedback that is effective and received well by the other person. When feedback is delivered effectively, it can build relationships, increase productivity, and create a positive workplace culture.

Session 4: People Smarts - Emotional Intelligence - (February 4, 2020 1:00pm - 4:00pm) - Location TBD Many employees today have been conditioned to believe that emotions are unwelcome in the workplace—that decisions should be based upon cold, logical reason. In short, we “leave our emotions at home.” Today there is an increasing amount of research regarding emotional intelligence (EI), which indicates that proper understanding and use of emotions are critical to helping us be more effective employees, better communicators, and can be a critical skill for working leaders.

Session 5: CEO of You - Lead Yourself to Success - (March 3, 2020 1:00pm - 4:00pm) – Location TBD We often think we are dependent on others to reach our goals and achieve success. But, we don’t need to place our future success in the hands of other people—we can design our destiny today. High achievers understand the value of clarity and courage in reaching their goals and they actively work to create opportunities for action. In this session, we will help working leaders examine their sphere of influence, leverage their skills and motivation, and develop a plan for their future.

Traveling is required to attend each session.***

• Registration is open now thru the date of the first session.
• Series is limited to the first 30 participants.
• The price is just $695 per person to companies with local Chamber membership.  (Regular         price is $895)
• No multiple person discounts, but take an additional 5% off your total by registering prior to         October 15, 2019.
• Once enrollments are confirmed, ATW will work with the participating Chambers to                         schedule the sessions at locations throughout the communities represented.
• ATW will provide snacks and beverages at all events.
• To register, just contact Mark Purcell at 515-727-0731, or mark@atwtraining.com.

Santa's Workshop is Coming to Town!

JC Huffman Cabinetry, Fairfield, Iowa.

Each year, Fairfield locals gather at the Fairfield Square for the annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony. This year, Teresa Huffman of JC Huffman Cabinetry Co. was asked to redecorate the infamous Santa House. Teresa, being the Rockstar designer that she is, didn’t want to just “redecorate”, she decided to work her magic and completely flip the Santa House and turn it into Santa’s Workshop and build Santa a new house.  With the support of her husband Jim, Supervisor JD Copple and the rest of the crew at JC Huffman Cabinetry, the project is nearing completion.

“I’m so excited about the Santa House”, exclaims Teresa, “Fairfield has the most beautiful square and I wanted to take advantage of that by giving families an experience around the holidays that they can remember forever, a classic Christmas that becomes a tradition” says Teresa.

Cool New Features of Santa’s House and Workshop:
• One door for entering and one door for exiting, for a faster traffic flow of meeting Santa.
• A hot chocolate area so the public can enjoy a warm beverage while waiting in the cold to see Santa.
• Santa’s House and Workshop will also be handicapped accessible with 36” door openings and ramps.
• Santa's new house is heated by a fireplace to keep Santa and his visitors warm and set the ambiance.
• A professional photographer will be present every Friday night to take pictures of the kids with Santa. The picture will print immediately for the children to take to Santa's Workshop where children can create an ornament with their picture with Santa.

See Santa’s House and Workshop come to life at the Annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony on Friday, November 29th, at Central Park in Fairfield. To commence the illumination and the holiday season, the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce organizes this festive tradition with the lights being turned on at 6:00pm. Arrive early to listen to t
he Fairfield High School Choir singing holiday music at 5:30pm.
