Agri-Industrial Plastics and the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce are partnering to show high school students the great variety of careers which are available in the Advanced Manufacturing Industry. On Monday, October 16th, Fairfield High School students are invited to Agri-Industrial Plastics from 10:00am-12:00pm on their ‘No School Monday’. Students will be participating in an activity about ‘Life After High School’, tour the facility, hear from a panel of employees, and wrap up with a free lunch of pizza. This program is relevant to both students planning to obtain a college degree and those who plan to directly enter the workforce after high school. Pre-registration is required for the event. The opening session will be held at the Fairfield High School from 10:00am-12:00pm on their ‘No School Monday.' Students will be introduced to the year-long program, learn about writing a resume, participate in activities to develop their soft skills, and wrap up with a free lunch of pizza. This program is relevant to both students planning to obtain a college degree and those who plan to directly enter the workforce after high school. Pre-registration is required for the event. The Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce will host a come-and-go workshop on Wednesday, September 13 from 8:00-11:00 am at the Indian Hills-Jefferson Center to help local businesses “get it right on Google.” Participants may come and go during the program time slot as their schedule allows and work with Mark Cohen, Founder and President of Colloquy Digital, to update their contact information, address, and phone number. The program will be held in the Indian Hills computer lab, allowing participants to come in, receive help in updating their information on one of the computers in the lab, and leave having this task completed. Participants will benefit from Cohen’s considerable experience in “traditional” marketing and the new digital customer experience. The event is FREE for Chamber Members and others are welcome for a $10 fee. Pre-registration is required. The Neighborhood Builders and Developers will be hosting a Chamber Business After Hours on Thursday, September 28th from 4:00-7:00pm. Tours of the new four-plex Lincoln Court condos will be available in addition to light refreshments. The Neighborhood Builders and Developers is a group of local investors experienced in building, development, sales/marketing, finance, and building products who are investing in Fairfield's future. The new condo development is located at 101 East Lincoln Avenue, just south of the First Christian Church. The Chamber Business After Hours is a free, monthly networking event open to Chamber Members, their guests and the general public. Kick Off Event on Tuesday, August 29th at 2:00 pm at the 21st Century Room at the Fairfield High School. The meeting will provide an overview to the Fairfield WORKS! program, discuss different ways business partners can get involved, and gather input from the business community. Fairfield WORKS! is a program started by the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce last spring with the goal of showcasing the vast array of career opportunities available in the Fairfield area to local high school students. In addition to showcasing careers and the "many pathways to prosperity", student also discuss life skills which will help them succeed as adults (i.e., personal finance, insurance, resume development, interview skills...) The Chamber is pleased to partner with our local businesses to continue to develop and grow this program. After this initial meeting, Event Coordinator, Brittney Tiller will be following up with each interested business to discuss their role as a presenter and/or host of a session. ![]() Join the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce as we celebrate the educators of our community! The 2017 Back to School Reception will be held on Thursday, September 7th from 4:00-5:30pm at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center - Expo Hall. The community is invited to help kick off the school year for both the Fairfield Community School District and Maharishi School! The Chamber and local businesses will be honoring and thanking the new and existing staff during this inspiring event. In the spirit of encouraging these professionals to make Fairfield their long-term home, the program will spotlight Scott Slechta, the 2016 Teacher of the Year. Scott’s message will share his experience as Iowa’s Teacher of the Year and why he chose to be his home for work and to raise his family. This inspiring event is open to the public with advance reservations made through the Chamber. Light refreshments will be served. The event is free for Chamber Members and everyone else is welcome for a small $5. Remember, if the business where you work is invested with the Chamber, then you as an employee are also a member!
