Implementing Change – Complying With the Department of Labor’s Updated Regulations on Overtime Pay

8/18/2016

If you have exempt/salaried staff members making less than $913 per week ($47,476 annually), you will likely need to comply with the Department of Labor’s new regulations that go into effect December 1, 2016.

Here’s What You Need to Know: After December 1, anyone earning less than $913 per week;
  • Will (most likely) be entitled to overtime pay for any hours worked over 40 in a week
  • Will be required to track and account for all hours worked within respective time keeping periods

Each business or nonprofit organization will need to determine the specific adjustments they may need to make to an individual’s current salaried compensation and how they will communicate these changes to their employee. There are several options a business may consider.

Join us September 7 to discuss an overview of the new regulations, the challenges and solutions different employers in Fairfield are considering in response to these changes, and other considerations to keep in mind as your businesses plans for compliance with as little disruption and cost to your employees and organization as possible.

Back by popular demand, the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce is once again offering Leadership Fairfield. This exciting seven-course program focuses on leadership development and deepening community awareness. The course is open to anyone interested in networking with and being inspired by Fairfield's leaders while gaining an in-depth perspective of the inner workings of the community.

"I was a new professional who just moved to Fairfield and Leadership Fairfield was a great way for me to meet new people and learn all about my new community," says a program graduate from last year.

Another reflects, "I've lived in Fairfield my entire life, except while gone to college, and Leadership Fairfield made me realize how much I didn't know about my hometown."

The program begins August 30, 2016 culminating with the graduation ceremony on March 24. The program includes monthly sessions which begin at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center and focus on a different aspect of the community. During a typical session, participants engage with a panel of experts and travel to various locations to get an in-depth look at local businesses/organizations and the leaders that make them thrive.

Sessions are led by Chamber program organizers and Leadership Fairfield alumni. All participants are required to complete work on a leadership focused group project, engage in eight hours of community service, and attend a community-level board meeting.

By the end of the program, participants gain new friends, new networks, a greater understanding of each sector of the community, and an increased understanding of their personal leadership development.

Cost to attend is $300. The fee includes lunch, transportation, materials, and entrance to the Chamber Annual Awards Banquet on March 24, 2017.

For more information, see the Application and Program Guidelines. Class size is limited. Applicants must submit their resume and application to the Chamber no later than Friday, August 19 at 5:00 pm.

For more information about Leadership Fairfield, contact the Chamber at 641-472-2111 or Chamber@FairfieldIowa.com

This August, the Chamber is hosting a Back to School Reception to honor and thank staff members of the Fairfield Community School District and Maharishi School for the Age of Enlightenment.  As part of the celebration, we will welcome teachers who are new to the community, many who will be calling Fairfield home for the first time.

In the spirit of encouraging these professionals to make Fairfield their long-term home, we plan to tailor the program to spotlight young professionals in the community. The young professionals will share heartfelt stories about why they love Fairfield and chose it as their place to live, work, and play.

Please join the celebration at the Fairfield Golf & Country Club on August 25 at 4:00pm!  This inspiring event is open to the public with advance reservations made through the Chamber.

Will you help support this event to celebrate education and the Fairfield community? If so, please let us know if you are willing to be a an event sponsor, provide a donated gift for the new teachers, or know of a young professional we should invite to speak.
