![]() Too many high school students are graduating from high school without knowing all the amazing career opportunities right in their own hometown! The Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce is partnering with local businesses and the Fairfield Community School District to offer a great new program called 'Fairfield Works'. On high school students ‘No School Mondays’ they are invited to tour a local business and learn about the career opportunities here in their own hometown. This program is relevant to both students planning to obtain a college degree and those who plan to directly enter the workforce after high school. Students will be touring the local businesses, hearing from a panel of team members from the business, and solving different 'real world issues' with their classmates. The Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce is excited about this new opportunity for the community. Chamber Members are already signing up to host and help with sessions in the 2017-2018 school year. In light of the recent suicide tragedy in our community recently, we want to let you know about the Hope for Life Organization that offers mental health and suicide prevention education, resources and coaching. This is an organization in our community that teaches everyone about mental health disorders and how to recognize the signs and symptoms of suicide, specific symptoms of crisis and how to communicate and offer help.
They are having their annual benefit concert on July 15th at the Sondheim featuring Penelope Makeig, a soprano singer from Vienna, Austria and a graduate from Maharishi School and the University of Iowa and her uncle, Jim Kendros, acclaimed composer and music historian from Chicago, Illinois. Hope for Life has made an important and positive impact over the last year in our community offering mental health education, speaking presentations at corporations and groups as well as workshops and seminars for families, individuals, professionals and parents. Here is a testimonial from a Fairfield parent about one of their courses: "NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) has made a big difference in my life and my family. Before NAMI, I felt alone, disconnected and confused. I understand my mentally ill son much better which has helped me to deal with him more effectively. For the first time in many years through NAMI, I have a group of people that really understand what it's like to have a mentally ill family member. The mutual support is wonderful." Fairfield Family to Family Course Participant / September, 2016 Please come to the concert and support this cause. Tickets are only $12.00 general admission. Purchase tickets here.
