Artist Series - JD Crowe And The New South (7:30PM)
INFORMATION:
What: Performing Arts Artist Series - JD Crowe and The New South
When: Saturday, May 5 at 7:30 pm
Where: Fairfield Arts & Convention Center
When it comes to J. D. Crowe &
The New South, no other word but "legendary" will do. With a
compelling blend of youth and experience, tradition and bold creativity, this
is a band as close to the heart of bluegrass today has ever been. J.D. Crowe
and the New South are among the most influential bluegrass bands of the past
three decades, with a visionary sound that suggests both a rich past and a
wide-open future. Bluegrass that is inventive and relevant to modern audiences
while still resonating with the music's deeply held sense of heritage is as
rare as it is thrilling.

Fairfield CVB Offers Free Tourism Hopsitality Training (9:00AM)
INFORMATION:
What: Farifeld CVB Offers Free Tourism Hospitality Training
When: Wednesday, May 16
Time: 9:00-11:00 am
Where: Fairfield Arts & Convention Center
The Fairfield Iowa Convention
& Visitors Bureau is pleased to offer free tourism hospitality training on
Wednesday, May 16 at 9 a.m. at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center.
Designed to encourage local businesses to incorporate tourism-friendly practices
at their business and make Fairfield the most visitor-friendly city in Iowa,
this two hour workshop will include hospitality training as well as information
about Fairfield and area attractions.
Upon completion of the program,
participants will receive a Certificate of Completion, the Destination Fairfield
Tourism handbook that provides information on attractions and events in and
around Fairfield, interesting and fun facts, and a list of phone numbers and
websites with further information about Fairfield.
This training session is
open to anyone with an interest in making Fairfield a better place to live and
visit. The interactive seminar will provide front-line hospitality industry
employees, volunteers and interested individuals and businesses with exciting,
actionable information that boosts their knowledge of the area's tourism
offerings.
"Tourism is great for Fairfield and Jefferson County, adding to
the local economy in a variety of ways, including hotel, restaurant and retail
expenditures and the creation of additional jobs," said Rustin
Lippincott, of the Fairfield Convention & Visitors Bureau. "Tourism
adds energy and builds good will within the community and this program will
prepare participants to become ambassadors for Fairfield and strengthen
community pride. The Bureau will be rolling out our 2012-13 visitors guide
shortly, as well as a visitor friendly map."
Carrie Koelker,
Eastern Iowa Tourism Association executive director, noted "Fairfield has
amazing tourism attractions, from their trail system to great restaurants and
festivals like Art Walk and the All Things Italian Street Festival. This
workshop may even surprise some residents with information they never knew
before." Koelker will be in Fairfield to assist with the training.
The
workshop is free and open to the public, however, space is limited and
interested individuals should contact the Bureau to reserve a spot. The
Jefferson County Supervisors provided financial assistance for the workshop. For
more information or to register, call 641-472-2828 or email tbaker@travelfairfieldiowa.com.
The
Mission of the Fairfield Iowa Convention and Visitors Bureau is to promote the
diverse events available in our community, and to attract and create events that
will inspire tourism and conventions, and to support the continued development
of a rich, cultural and thriving environment.
