BUSINESS AFTER HOURS

The MainStay Inn will host the Fairfield Chamber’s Business After Hours for all Chamber members, spouses and guests on Thursday, April 17 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at 300 North Main  directly across from the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center.  The Chamber encourages its members to meet and socialize with the staff who make up The MainStay Inn.

Please join Barry & Kate and fill the halls of The MainStay Inn and Cottage while you enjoy hot & cold hors d’oeuvres, lots of bubbly and of course tours of both buildings and all the rooms.  As a special bonus they are offering free mattress testing and a chance to win a free    overnight in their door prize drawing!  They won’t blame you if you want to stay over, so you might want to bring your pajamas!

If your place of employment is a Chamber member, then you are a Chamber member also.  This is a great opportunity for members, spouses and prospective members to not only meet and socialize with the people who make up the work force of The MainStay Inn, but to also discover the potential and fun of networking.

If you are interested in hosting a Business After Hours, please contact Nancy Morrissey at 641-472-2111 or by email at nmorrissey@fairfieldiowa.com.

SPEED NETWORKING

Where: Best Western Fairfield Inn
When: May 8, 2008
Time: Registration begins at 6:30 p.m.
Chamber member - $10.00
Non-Chamber Member - $15.00

Speed Networking is an opportunity for local business people, merchants, elected officials, restaurateurs, etc. from throughout the area to meet, greet and get connected through a carefully choreographed but simple format which eases and accelerates the often tedious "Nice to meet you" part of everyone's day.

Borne from an increasingly popular concept in business hubs across the country, Speed Networking will put you across the table from a counterpart, customer, colleague or friend you probably didn't know you had. You'll meet, learn, exchange information and move on to another meeting.  Then you'll have a chance afterward to reconnect during a mingling period.

New business contacts in minutes. That's the idea. Participants will have a series of brief face-to-face meetings with other likeminded folks looking to expand their networking circle. With the Chamber behind maximizing the networking experience, your only focus will be on making new contacts and expanding your circle.

Registration begins at 6:30 pm. Sign up now at the Chamber, 204 West Broadway, or give us a call and we'll get you signed up 472.2111.

BLAST OFF DATES SET

The Chamber has announced the dates of the 2008 Blast Off series.  The Men will go June 6 at the Fairfield Golf & Country Club with pre-event dinner on the 5th and the Ladies go June 20 at the Walton Club with pre-event dinner on the 19th.  Mark your calendars, get the day off work and plan on playing in Fairfield's liveliest best-ball golf event.  There'll be food.  There'll be drink.  There'll be a ton of prizes.  It'll be a lot of fun.  Start assembling that foursome- we'll be taking registrations before you know it.

Questions till then?  Cindy at the Chamber 472.2111.

Co-Ed Theatre - The Co-Ed Theatre opened on July 28, 1910 as the Orpheum Theater. In 1940 the Orpheum Theater closed for remodeling. A contest was held to see who could come up with the best idea as to how the theater should be remodeled. Students from Parsons College came up with the best design idea. When the theater reopened on Christmas Day in 1940, the name was changed to the Co-Ed Theater in honor of those students because Parsons College was a co-ed college. In 1984 the Co-Ed Theater was remodeled again. When it reopened in August of 1984, it was a twin theater.
