Tuesday night, Chamber and FEDA executive director Brent Willett put the four candidates vying for the open Iowa House District 90 seat though two hours of questioning, touching on issues ranging from the Right-to-Work law to workforce issues to health care.
Brent Willett, Executive Director of the Fairfield Economic Development Association and Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce, addressed the Fairfield City Council on Monday, July 13. His presentation related to the plan to stripe the newly-surfaced Burlington Avenue with one eastbound lane, one westbound lane, one middle turning lane and one or two undesignated free spaces widely understood to be intended for use by bicyclists along the north and south of the roadway, Willett requested of the Council on the behalf of both organizations that the Council "become inclined and commit future resources toward a scientific review by a qualified actor of traffic safety incidence improvements, vehicle efficiency data and bicycle use and safety data no more than 12 months from the completion of the striping of Burlington Avenue". The request was referred to the Safety and Transportation Committee.

On Friday, June 19, more than 75 ladies teed off at the Fairfield Golf & Country Club for what would be a day of [mostly] sun, food, beverages, games and prizes. Thanks to nearly 100 sponsor member partners, the 2009 Blast Off series was a major success.
Check out the ladies scores here. Scores reported for 9 holes due to the tournament being cut short by 2-3 holes as inclement weather rolled in at the end of the day.
Friday, June 5 saw nearly 100 golfers- supported by more than 100 sponsor member companies- play the 2009 Men's Blast Off at the Walton Club in Fairfield. The top team scored a 57 [a great score], but the day was about much more than fine golf. Games, beverages and lunch on the course, dinner and a free practice round the night before and prizes for winning and just-there-to-have-fun teams alike.

In a venture that has reached its ninth year, the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce and three local banks have partnered to offer the Fairfield Revitalization Fund though July 2010. The Fund, targeted for small and emerging businesses in downtown Fairfield, boasts participation from First National Bank in Fairfield, Libertyville Savings Bank and MidWestOne Bank. It will again offer low-interest business loans to qualifying businesses in Fairfield.
The Fund's interest rate has been lowered for the second year in a row and now stands at 5%, a full percentage point below last year's rate.
Facebook is here to stay [for now, at least]. And the Chamber is easier to find and befriend than ever on the service. We're now at Facebook.com/FairfieldIowa.
